God Bless Gur Kirpal Singh Ashk for at least beginning to uncover it...

This was in yesterday's TOI

35 female foetuses dumped near clinic

Patiala:The recovery of at least 15 aborted foetuses from a well located behind a private nursing home here on Wednesday sent shockwaves across Punjab, already fighting a losing battle with an adverse sex ratio.
The foetuses were recovered following a raid conducted by the state health authorities with the help of the police from behind Sahib Nursing Home in Patran town. Sources said about 30 to 35 of them had been thrown in over the last three months.
Patiala civil surgeon Dr Varinder Singh Mohi said he had directed superintending medical officers from Shutrana and Samana to conduct raids after he got a tip-off at about 8 pm on Tuesday that two dead foetuses were lying in the well.
An hour later, Dr Mohi received a call from Shutrana SMO Dr Harbans Singh Sra requesting him to visit the nursing home personally as the matter was turning out to be very serious. Dr Mohi, however, did not give the exact number of foetuses recovered from the well.
Police also reportedly seized surgical instruments, medicines and other material used for abortions in the nursing home, which was not authorised to conduct MTPs (medical termination of pregnancies).
Sources said the matter came to light when a dai (midwife) blew the cover off the clandestine racket when she was pushed out of the nursing home after an altercation with a doctor. Dr Mohi said that she had given a signed statement to the police that 30 to 35 foetuses had been thrown in the well, allegedly by Dr Pritam Singh and his wife Amarjit Kaur.

Today TOI carried another one (unfortunately on the inside pages)
Hunt begins for 2nd foetus well

Patiala: A day after the discovery of at least 15 foetuses in a well behind a nursing home in Patran near Patiala, the authorities have decided to empty out another earth-filled well that supposedly stood near the entrance to the clinic.
The decision was spurred by information received from a former staff member of Sahib Nursing Home. The search would be supervised by a panel headed by a magistrate.
A local court on Thursday extended the police remand of Dr Pritam Singh and his wife Amarjit Kaur, the owners of the nursing home, for three days. It is feared that 30-35 foetuses were allegedly dumped by them over the last three months.
Late in the evening, deputy superintendent of police Harbhajan Singh questioned the couple as a dai, who was earlier employed with the clinic, is believed to have told the police that the duo used to dispose of aborted foetuses in the now-filled well.
Manish Kumar, the sub-divisional magistrate of Patran, said though there was no sign of the supposedly filled-up well, they would leave no stone unturned to take the case to its logical conclusion. The digging would begin at 9 am on Friday.
Sources said the authorities have received information about several clinics and ultrasound scanning centres that were running similar rackets. Apparently they offer a ‘package deal’ worth Rs 10,000 for illegal sex determination of the foetus and abortion.

Once the anger has passed, it totally fills me with dread,... A colleague keeps telling me - it has to change..it will change.. but even change takes time especially when you are battling to change someone's thought process.

But its not good enough. There has to be a short term merciless punishment for such doctors, parents and human beings and more for the women in these scams who are part of it.

Yes. Nothing extra for the women. Those who are brought up that way can rarely differentiate right from wrong. They need counselling. Name and shame the doctors thoroughly.

I can't begin to understand the thought process. Have always been taught to walk in the other person's shoes but this is one time I absolutely fail....
How can a woman feel that a girl child is a burden... tells a sad story about her life too, doesnt it?
