Hurrah!
Its not much a cause for celebration in the general scheme of things and all but.. a small part of the huge project of the Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road got ready a few months ago and (more importantly) was put into operation on 26th of January 2005.
A regular bit of a flyover which rises, like a proverbial phoenix from what looks like still smouldering ashes (the slums over which part of this flyover is built), to take a curved path over one of Mumbai's many ridiculously populated and badly maintained signals/junctions.
This is a part of a larger flyover which will extend from one end of Mumbai to the other, trying to connect two unconnectable surburbs.
What's most thrilling is when the the vehicle I am in (alternating between a company bus or autorickshaw) gets on to this flyover and slowly begins climbing. It gradually veers to the right and you see a bird's eye view (albeit a really low flying bird) of the same place you have been seeing for eons.. but the thrill is still very new and great to experience.
For one brief moment I pretend I am somewhere else instead of a polluted Mumbai and flying.. flying.. high to land briefly and skim the surface of the lake near office... sigh..before coming to rest at my stationary post in office.
Also this means to me that development (if flyovers can be considered progress) does come our way, depsite corrupt practices and slow-mo in everything. Its a thought worth investing in.
