"A rebuff could help to turn Pakistan's anti-Indian nationalism into an anti-India-and-America nationalism; pro-Western secularists may lose ground to militant Islamists."
What world is this guy living in? Pakistanis cannot possibly hate the US more than they do as of now.
This i percieve is more a move to rap Pakistan's knuckles. Nothing more. What is more important is the deepening of economic ties, I think the over dependance on China for trade has caused them no end of trouble. They are literally begging for a revaluation of the yuan.
I think this time as they sit for a dialogue, they want us as much as we want them. Interesting

gawker: Pakistan may hate US but as long Musharaf is in their pockets, all is definitely not well.
r.: More than they needing us, they seem to need us on their side, despite their obvious preference of Pakistan.
